NOTE: THE FOLLOWING ARE INSTRUCTIONS TO ASSIST YOU IN THE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF THE STEERING STEM FOR YOUR NEW “EMIG RACING” BOTTOM CLAMP. CARE MUST BE TAKEN SO THAT NEITHER THE STEM OR CLAMP ARE DAMAGED DURING THE PROCEDURE. YOU MUST USE A MANUAL/HYDRAULIC PRESS. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE A VICE OR HAMMER.

Place the clamp on a flat surface that will secure the area around the stem. Place the clamp with the “TOP” side facing up. (PIC #1) DO NOT secure on the outside of the clamp only as the clamp could be damaged during removal. Provide only an opening big enough for the stem to pass through.

Use a small piece of material slightly smaller than the stem to aid in pushing the stem through. (PIC #14)

Start applying pressure to the top of the stem. It will take a good amount of pressure at first to move the stem. You may hear “pops” at first. As you continue to press, the amount of pressure will decrease. Keep pressing until the stem falls through. (PIC #7) Take the nut off the stem and remove the stem and bearing from the clamp. You are now ready for the installation part.

Apply an “Anti-seize” lubricant around the stem hole and on the stem. (PIC #8) Slide the stem through the clamp and apply the bearing. (PIC #9, #10)

Place the clamp with the “Top” side facing down against your pressing block. (PIC #2)

You will need your small piece of material to press against the stem.

Make sure the clamp, bearing & stem are secure before continuing.

Start applying pressure to the bottom of the stem. (PIC #4) Keep pressing generously until you reach a hard spot. This is when the stem is fully installed. It may go past being flush with the clamp. This is normal on some models. (PIC #13)

Remove your clamp from the press. You are now ready to install on your motorcycle.
